The lifeless bodies of two brothers were found in the trunk of their Toyota Corolla along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, near Tempo Mills, Umunya, Anambra State.
Onyema and Nonso, as identified, were believed to have been killed on their way home after attending a Church program along Oguta Road, near Upper Iweka, Onitsha.
Initially, a gory video circulating on WhatsApp led many to mistakenly think the victims were a husband and wife. However, it was later confirmed that the deceased were the two brothers.
Venerable Emmanuel Onovo, a cleric based in Aguleri, shared on his Facebook page that the brothers were members of the Anglican Communion in the state and had been part of the Anglican Children’s Ministry in Omogba, Onitsha.
“They are my two sons in the Anglican Children’s Ministry, Omogba, Onitsha years back. I called their parents yesterday to offer them prayers,” Onovo wrote.
Another Facebook user expressed the tragic nature of the incident, stating, “Two blood brothers kidnapped and killed in Anambra State yesterday… Ala Igbo has eaten their own flesh and drank lots of their own bloods. They attended a church program at Oguta Road, Onitsha, only for them to be found at Umunya junction in the trunk of their car!!! Negodu men. This is really heartbreaking.”
While the motive behind the murder remains unclear, there are speculations that the brothers may have been victims of a kidnap attempt, causing panic in the area.
