In a bid to fulfil its mission of providing clean and safe water to rural and vulnerable communities in Lagos State, Merry-Gold Water recently organized a virtual fundraising event.
The event, which took place on Friday, 3rd of May 2024, at 12 pm via Zoom, aimed to garner support for this crucial cause.
Under the stewardship of MC Barrister Jide Lanlehin, the event commenced with a warm welcome extended to the esteemed guests. Following this, speakers were introduced, including notable figures such as RT. HON. JOKO PELUMI, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who served as the Chairman and Chief Launcher for the event.
Key insights were shared by PAUL HORTON from the Future Water Association, who served as the Keynote Speaker, and LISA GREENHALGH, Director of Finlay Jude Associates Ltd, who contributed as a Guest Speaker. Their expertise shed light on the importance of addressing the water crisis in Lagos.
PRINCE AKEEM ADENUGA, CEO of Merry-Gold Water Charity UK, spearheaded the initiative, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to providing access to clean water for all. Prince Akeem Adenuga also presented the Merry-Gold Chair during the event, symbolizing the organization’s dedication to its cause.
The fundraising efforts, led by George Miller and Jide Lanlehin, were met with enthusiasm as attendees generously contributed to support the cause. A lively Q&A session provided an opportunity for engagement and further understanding of the challenges faced by these communities.
As the event drew to a close, Prince Akeem Adenuga extended a heartfelt Vote of Thanks to all participants, expressing gratitude for their support and commitment to changing lives through access to clean water.
Merry-Gold Water Charity is a non-profit organization duly registered in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. It came into being under some of the most “innocuous” circumstances. Merry-Gold’s principal trustee and founder, Prince Akeem Adenuga, after several trips from the UK to Lagos, and having observed, at close quarters, the inexplicable horrors being experienced by locals as they go in search of water daily, made up his mind to help bridge the gap via the provision of safe water to households in some of the most affected communities in Lagos.
After setting up offices in Nigeria and London, Merry-Gold Water Charity set out very clearly with its primary mission – to mitigate the water needs in Lagos’s most vulnerable rural communities, singling out Odo-Ayandelu/Agbowa-Ikosi/Epe/Ikorodu local government areas, among others. The intention was to achieve this by providing modern water borehole systems with adequate reservoirs for them, while the target was to channel energy into those communities without access to clean water, liaising with chosen local organizations and individuals. Merry-Gold planned from day one to count on the goodwill of individual donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and in-kind donations.
Meanwhile, the organization also disclosed its decision to establish operations in the southeast part of the country later this year
