Dana Airplane Veers Off Runway at Lagos Airport

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, an aircraft operated by Dana Airline, identified as a McDonald Douglas (MD-83) with registration 5N-BKI, veered off the runway. Onboard were 83 passengers. Despite the concerning situation, the airline’s spokesman, Mr. Kingsley Ezenwa, assured the public that all passengers and crew safely disembarked without injuries.

Ezenwa issued a statement conveying Dana Air’s regret regarding the runway incursion involving one of its aircraft, 5N BKI, which was en route from Abuja to Lagos on April 23, 2024. The statement highlighted the safe disembarkation of the passengers and crew, emphasizing the crew’s professionalism in handling the situation.

The airline promptly notified the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) about the incident. Furthermore, Dana Air’s maintenance team grounded the involved aircraft for further investigation.

The statement extended acknowledgment to the airport authorities and the crew for their swift response in ensuring the passengers’ safe disembarkation. Dana Air expressed sincere apologies to the affected passengers for any inconvenience caused, while also thanking them for their patience and understanding during the incident.
