Nigerian popular afrobeats singer and Grammy Awards winner, Ayodeji Balogun a.k.a Wizkid emerged winner at the American Music Awards in the category of Favourite Afrobeats Artist making him the first artist to clinch the novel awards on its maiden introduction into the AMAs.
Wizkid was nominated alongside top-rated Nigerian afrobeats singers including; Burna boy, Fireboy DML, CKay and Tems.
However, his collaboration with Tems on ‘Essence’, also won in the Favourite R&B Song category at the event.
Meanwhile, American singer and song-writer, Taylor Swift left all mouths ajar after winning in all six categories for which she was nominated, including favorite female pop artist, favorite pop album and favorite female country artist. The wins cemented Swift as the most decorated artist in AMAs history, with 40 career wins.
The American Music Awards also known as AMAs is a music awards show held annually in America to celebrate the year’s top achievements in music as determined and voted by the fans.
The 50th edition of the American Music Awards took place on Sunday, November 21, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The star-studded music show witnessed a sterling performance from world music’s biggest names ranging from pop to rap, R&B to country, Latin to K-Pop among others.
Aired live on ABC, the AMA 2022 awards show was produced by Dick Clark productions and was hosted by Wayne Brady.
Nominees and winners of the American Music Awards are based entirely on fan interactions , with the Billboard charts being a determinant factor, paying key attention to streaming, album sales, song sales and radio airplay.
