The 2022 Black Entertainment Television Awards (BET) event, which took place on Sunday night, the 27th of June, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, was a night of honor.
It featured top-notch performances from A-list artists like Mariah Carey. The 53-year-old pop legend unexpectedly showed up at the 2022 BET Awards in Los Angeles, dazzling the event with her distinctive flair and familiar whistle notes.
The BET Awards also recognized Sean “Diddy” Combs for his lifetime contributions. The three-time Grammy-winning Bad Boy Records founder was thrilled by this.
Following Diddy’s award, Kanye West made a surprise appearance paying respect to him in a five-minute statement.
West talked about their connection and noted that Diddy understood contracts in a way that many of his other colleagues still don’t, and he had an understanding of money that many of his colleagues still lack.
Jay-Z’s video was also one of many contributions to the night’s Diddy tributes, which also featured appearances from Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, and Nas, among others.
Latto won the best new artist award at the BET Awards, earning her first significant musical award. As Idris Elba and Will Packer presented the “Big Energy” rapper with her prize at Microsoft Theater, it was evident that she was really delighted.
With historic prizes and spectacular performances, Nigerian acts did the nation proud during the event, which is regarded as one of the largest achievements in Black entertainment internationally.
Since 2001, the event has been creating major buzz around pop culture, showbiz, and the entertainment industry as a whole, especially for black people.
Nigerian artists like Dbanj have constantly thrived to put Nigeria on the map considering his best international act (Africa) win in 2011 and Wizkid’s Best International Act win in 2012.
The awards which honor achievements in music, culture, and sports, featured Nigerian artist, Fireboy DML, who prestigiously stole the show.
The main highlight of the event for most Nigerians was Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems winning two awards in the same night.
The gifted singer who won the Best International Act category at the BET Awards 2022 received her first international prize for a solo single earlier in the evening before she won for a song she did with Wizkid and Justin Bieber (Essence).
Tems delivered a quick speech after getting the honor in which she dedicated it to all young women working toward their goals of living out their ambitions.
