Omicron: Canada Places Travel Ban on Nigeria, Egypt, Malawi and Others

Nigeria has joined the list of countries banned from Canada after recent rise in cases of Omicron variant. Other countries on the travel ban list includes; Egypt, Malawi and others

According to the Canadian Health Minister, Mr. Jean-Yves Duclos, he noted that tests would be carried on all travellers coming from outside Canada, at Canadian airports for the novel coronavirus disease, regardless of vaccination status excluding those from the United States,

This came after the World Health Organization, WHO, called for countries to keep calm and take “rational” measures in response to the new COVID variant, Omicron.

According to WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus all member states are to take rational, proportional risk-reduction measures.

The Omicron variant has been reported in the Netherlands when South Africa alerted the WHO about it last week.
