On Thursday, 14th July, 2022, an Ikeja Special Offences Court convicted the defending Nollywood actor, Mr Olanrewaju James, also known as Baba Ijesha, of the sexual assault of a 14-year-old minor.
Baba Ijesha’s rape trial has lasted for over 12 months, since his arrest and arraignment in June 2021.
Since 22nd April, 2022, Baba Ijesha has been caught up in an unpleasant rape trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old known to be the foster daughter of a comedienne known as princess.
On Thursday, the judge Mrs Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted Baba Ijesha of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault, after a rigorous two hour deliberation.
She sentenced him to 16 years in prison concurrently.
Out of six offenses, Baba Ijesha was found guilty of four offences, and two of the charges attracted five years while the remaining two attracted three years.
His 16 year sentence will run concurrently. This means that the Yoruba actor will spend five years behind bars.
However, Mrs Oluwatoyin discharged and acquitted him of the first and six counts which were: sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
Again, he was accused of indecently touching the child and sexually assaulting her seven years ago by rubbing her body and sucking her fingers.
But the judge found him not guilty of count one, which suggested that he sexually assaulted the child by penetration, using his car key seven years ago.
The court also found him not guilty of the sixth count here he was accused of attempting to sexually assault her by penetration during another encounter with her in April 2021.
