Anambra Lawmakers Pass Bill To Re-enact ACTDA

With the need to demarcated the functions the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA from other related agencies, the Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill to that effect.

This comes off as a result of the plenary session that held yesterday at the House in Awka.

With this new bill which seeks to repeal and re- enact the ACTDA and provide for related matters, it is now a punishable offence for an individual to carry out any development or municipal service without a written approval from the Authority.

Also, any individual developing contrary to the terms of the approval or disregards ‘stop work’ order issued under section 16 of the bill among others commits an offence and will be punished accordingly.

Speaking at the plenary,Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, the Majority Leader explained that the bill has streamlined the areas of jurisdiction of both the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority and the Anambra State Physical Planning Development Board.

On his part, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, the Speaker of the House read out the bill for passage to the hearing of other lawmakers who supported it through a voice note.

At the end of the plenary, Honourable Okechukwu Okoye the Chairman, House committee on Information and Culture opined that the bill will facilitate the development of Awka Capital territory; thus, it is a welcome development.
