In recognition of their role in lifting the image of the country, as well as keeping the memory of late all time Super Eagles goal scorer, Rashidi Yekini, the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has pledged to host the 1994 Super Eagles.

He made this known during his visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare where they discussed issues ranging from areas of mutual collaboration to prospects in Youths and Sports.

In line with the desire to immortalize the late prolific goal poacher, Rashidi Yekini, Governor Abdulrazaq revealed that progress is been made to rename the Kwara State Sports Complex, Ilorin, after him.

Speaking on the USA ’94 Super Eagles of which the Governor was a passionate follower, Governor Abdulrazaq noted that he was anticipating hosting the squad in Ilorin, to relive the memory of late Yekini who hailed from Ira Local Government Area of Kwara State.

On his part, the Minister, Mr. Dare called the attention of the Governor to the series of letters that had been sent to the Kwara State Government to immortalize Rashidi Yekini by renaming the stadium after the late football maestro. He also admonished the Governor to sustain his support for sports development, given the fact that sports play a vital role in reducing social vices.

Daniel Amokachi, the Special Assistant on Sports to the President and member of the ’94 squad expressed his excitement that Governor Abdulrazaq deemed it fit to honour his late teammate by renaming the Kwara State stadium. To this end, he is anticipating the Governor hosting the squad.

The USA ‘94 squad was ranked the 5th best team in the world by FIFA following their impressive performance which saw them beat Greece and Bulgaria before capitulating to Italy after extra time.
