THE Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, has commenced the distribution of relief materials worth about N20 million to the victims of last year’s minor flood disaster that affected some parts of the state.
The materials, which were donated by the presidential committee on flood relief and rehabilitation, included thousands of bags of cement, beans, garri and maize. The affected local government areas of Ogbaru, Onitsha North and Onitsha South received their materials at the headquarters of SEMA in Awka yesterday. The executive secretary of SEMA, Chief Paul Odenigbo, who was represented by a director in the agency, Mr. Chukwudi Onyejekwe, explained that about 300 victims would benefit from the exercise. Only recently, the agency distributed relief materials, including zinc, ceiling boards, nails, bedding materials, buckets, palm oil, vegetable oil, as well as bags of cement and rice to flood victims in Anambra East, Anambra West, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Ogbaru, Awka North, Onitsha North and Onitsha South. Some of the victims expressed gratitude to the state and federal governments for coming to their aide after the disaster that displaced them from their homes.
