The Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism plans to organize a virtual International Conference with Anambra indigenes in The Diaspora.

This was revealed by Dr Kenneth Anierobi, the Commissioner during a meeting with the staff members of Diaspora Affairs Department in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

Dr Anierobi revealed that the interactive session involved indigenes of Anambra living outside the country and those living outside the state.

He said: “We have to set up a communication channel with Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to establish a strong relationship with them in line with the mission statement of the state.

“The Diaspora portal will be put to use this year to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state, tourist sites, programmes and other important positive information.

“This is to help to attract Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to invest in the state.

“The department will also ensure that the plans to set up The Diaspora Estate are achieved this year.’’

The commissioner encouraged the staff members to work together as a team, share vital information among them and bring up ideas that would boost the ministry.

“Have the mindset of making things happen, not waiting for it to happen, and know that your department is key in reaching Ndi Anambra outside the country.

“There are a lot of things we can derive from the department and it is our job to ensure it is actualized.’’

Acting Director of Diaspora Affairs, in the person of Mrs Nneka Nwankwo, appreciated the Commissioner for the opportunity to interact with him.

She noted that her department markets the rich cultural activities and tourist sites of the state to the world.

“Diaspora department is the direct link to Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora through which it gets to other ministries, The Diaspora people will wish to interact with.’’

Mr Igwemma Basil, a Cultural Officer, showed appreciation to the commissioner for calling for the meeting.

He went further to reassure him that they would work hard as a team to bring to reality all the aspirations of the department.
