Ifite Community In Awka Calls For The Intervention Of The Government Over Vandalization By Unknown Group

Due to the ongoing destruction of both public and private  properties by an unknown group under the guise of Ifite Awka Integrated; Ifite Awka village, in Awka South LGA  has called on the state government to intervene.

The group has been vandalizing public property in Ifite Awka for three weeks now.

Speaking to the ABS, Chief Charles Nwachukwu the General Chairman of Enuifite Awka, expressed regret that the group had through their destructive acts left many people without source of livelihood, he called for government intervention before the situation gets out of hand.

A former Secretary General of Awka Development Union Nigeria, Chief Emma Okechukwu, who is an indigene of Ifite Awka, alleged that the group has been terrorizing the village with guns and other dangerous weapons, saying that they have reported the matter to the B Division of the Nigeria Police Force, whom, he said appear to be treating the matter with kid gloves.

Another stakeholder in the village, Chief Augustine Umeadu and a Youth Leader, Mr. Ezebuilo Nwachukwu, whose property was also destroyed by the said group, alleged that the group has sworn to continue with their indiscriminate destruction.

On his part, a Pastor, Uche Ogbonna, whose church was also destroyed by the group, described the incident as man’s inhumanity to man.

Many people in Ifite Awka have also described the group as illegal as according to them it was formed by an alleged notorious man in the village, who is using the group to defraud many developers of their hard earned money.

According to them, if the activities of the purported Ifite Awka Integrated are not checked, it will turn the area into a lawless zone.

As at the time of filling this report, property destroyed by the group was estimated at over twenty million naira.

All efforts made to speak with the leader of the purported Ifite Awka Integrated proved abortive as he was nowhere to be found.
