Health: Fitness Club Holds Awareness Campaign On Breast & Prostate Cancer

Masters Fitness and Wellbeing Club recently organised a health awareness campaign geared towards educating Ndi Anambra on breast and prostate cancers, together with the health benefits of exercise.

The health awareness campaign which held in Awka was graced by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano, Mr. James Eze and health experts among others.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Okpala while commending the Club for putting together the awareness campaign explained that non communicable diseases which cancer belongs to is one of the silent greatest killers of Nigerians. Thus, it is for this reason that the state Ministry of Health has strengthened its non communicable diseases segment of the Department of Public Health and Disease Control to ensure that Ndi Anambra know all about non communicable diseases and how to prevent and manage them.

Furthermore, he admonished the general public to be careful with what they consume and also know the various exercises that are good for them according to their age. In addition, he explained that eating right and exercising well is vital in preventing some of these non communicable diseases.

On his part, Dr. Emeka Ezenekwe, a medical Consultant from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital who delivered a lecture on on the dangers of cancer, especially prostate cancer, revealed that according to research, there is no supplement that can prevent or cure prostate cancer. Hence, it is important for men who attain the age of 40 to seek medical evaluation of his prostate cancer status for his own benefit.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Architect Emeke Nwude, the Chairman of the Club while expressing his gratitude to the Commissioner and others for attending the event, stated that they decided to hold the talk show as part of their social responsibilities.
