Following his success at the recently concluded Edo polls, Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki on his re-election as governor of Edo State.

This was revealed in a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. James Eze in Awka.

According to the statement, Governor Obiano noted that the people of Edo State demonstrated true commitment to democratic ideals by exercising their civic rights and returning their mandate to Governor Obaseki to continue his job as Governor of Edo State for a second term.

He prayed for the success of Governor Obaseki’s second term in office and for the peace and progress of Edo State.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, announced the total result of the election where in Obaseki polled 307,955 votes across the 18 local government areas of the state to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu,.who scored 223,619 votes.

It would be recalled that Obaseki was elected on the APC platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket to run for a second term owing to intra-party squabbles.
