An investigation has been initiated by Commissioner Aderemi Adeoye of the Anambra State Police into the killing of a trader at the bridgehead drug market in Onitsha, a bustling commercial hub. The victim, Arinze Obunadike, was fatally shot during a recent operation at the market by a state government-supported Anti-Touting Squad.

Golden Iloh, a member representing Ihiala State Constituency II in the Anambra House of Assembly, formally lodged a complaint regarding the incident at the police headquarters in Awka. Mr. Iloh disclosed that the deceased, originally hailing from Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area, pursued studies in political science at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, before venturing into apprenticeship within the market.

Commending the peaceful approach taken by both the constituency’s residents and the family of the deceased in seeking justice, Commissioner Adeoye assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted until the perpetrators are apprehended. The State Criminal Investigation Department has been entrusted with leading the inquiry.

Emphasizing the imperative of serving justice, Commissioner Adeoye reiterated that no individual possesses the authority to unlawfully end another’s life. He underscored the existence of eyewitnesses during the tragic incident and pledged to relentlessly pursue the case until all parties involved are identified, detained, and brought before the courts.

Drawing attention to the victim’s unblemished reputation, Mr. Iloh underscored the necessity of holding those accountable responsible and subjecting them to legal proceedings to deter similar transgressions in the future.

Demonstrating confidence in the diligence of law enforcement, the people of Okija and Ihiala Constituency II entrusted the matter into the hands of the authorities.
