Anambra State Physical Planning Board has commenced the razing of unapproved structures that shelter criminals and sex workers in the state.

Reacting to the raid carried out at Kara Market on Atani road by Harbour Industrial Layout, Okpoko, the Board chairman Mr Chike Maduekwe said that the demolition was in line with Gov. Willie Obiano’s promise to ensure that Anambra is a crime-free state.

Mr. Maduekwe, who is also a legal practitioner, noticed that the shanties were illicitly erected under electrical power cables not minding the danger and risk to lives of those who reside in them. He urged the residents of the illegal structures to relocate to somewhere better and safer for their various businesses instead of imperiling their lives.

A business owner at Kara Market, Mr Pius Ohiaeliaku eulogized the Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration for the exercise while complaining that criminals always carry out their dubious acts within that area while taking refuge at the brothels when chased by the police.

Mr. Ohiaeliaku beckoned on the State Government to provide a good location to enable them carry out their businesses without fear of insecurity.
