The Anambra State Government has expressed its commitment to intensify the fight against human trafficking.

During an Interface between the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and relevant groups in Awka, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo represented by Hon. Ify Obinabo, stated the ministry’s collaboration with the general public to achieve its set objectives.

Obinabo, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare appealed for the cooperation of the people to help achieve her ministry’s set goal. She hinted that the Ministry plans to embark on an aggressive raid of human trafficking agents masquerading under the guise of Non-Governmental Organizations, whose victims are majorly the vulnerable, sick persons and children.

She reiterated that the present administration has zero tolerance for trafficking in any forms.

Earlier this year, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) raised the alarm on the increasing cases of child trafficking in Anambra State.

The NAPTIP Zonal Commander for the state, Judith-Chukwu Ibadin, claimed that the agency dealt with 40 cases of child trafficking in the state in the last year.
