As part of its oversight responsibilities, the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters has instructed the Onitsha South Local Government Area to improve their 2019 records for the benefit of the people.
This directive was given when the Committee visited the local government area recently.
According to Dr. Pete Ibida, The Chairman of the Committee, he noted that the local government did not use procurement Act in the execution of its capital projects that is above a million naira and was unable to provide them with cash flow and list of projects executed during the year under review.
To this end, the Committee mandated the local government Head of Works and their cashier to keep their records straight. However, the committee commended the Head of Personnel of the local government area and for teamwork that exists among the local government management staff, calling for its sustenance.
Conversely, Chief Emeka Asoanya, the Transition Committee Chairman, for Onitsha South Local Government Area in his remark stressed that the meeting was a learning moment. This is given the fact that the Committee was able to guide them on how best to keep proper records of their expenditures. He also commended the Committee for living up to its oversight responsibilities, assuring that they will improve significantly on their processes.
