Usman Alkali Baba: Nigeria’s New Acting Inspector General of Police

Usman Alkali Baba has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as the new Inspector-General of Police.

Usman Alkali Baba was born on March 1, 1963 in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

On the 15th of March 1988, he was enlisted in the Nigerian Police. He holds a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers College, Potiskum.

From the University of Maiduguri, Mr Baba obtained a degree of Bachelor of Arts (ED)  in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano in 1985 and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from University of Maiduguri in 1997.

Prior to his appointment as the acting IGP on Tuesday, he had held several positions in various commands of the force notably below;

He served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Yola, Gombe, Kaduna and Jos.

He also served in Ilorin, Kwara State as Area Commander, second-in-command in Ebonyi State and Assistant Commissioner, CID, in Kaduna.

He also served in Kaduna as the deputy commissioner (administration) and in FCT as deputy commissioner of police (Investigation). He was also in the staff college as a directing staff.

In January 2014 , he became the commissioner of police and in July 2016, he became the AIG.

He is distinguished as a fellow of the National Defense College and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

He has also served in various capacities including; Assistant Inspector-General of Police n charge of zone-5 Benin, Zone-4 Makurdi, zone-7 Abuja, Commissioner of Police FCT and Delta Commands.

Also diligently serving, he has held the position of the Force Secretary.
