Losing Daylight

The Nigerian movie industry is set to celebrate its first cinematic history exhibition titled “Losing Daylight” in October.

“Losing Daylight” draws its inspiration from the phrase commonly used by filmmakers racing against the clock to capture their shots in daylight.

Scheduled for October 1st and 2nd, 2023, at 37 Glover Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, this two-day exhibition promises an immersive journey through Nigeria’s film evolution since its inception.

The festivities kick off at 2 p.m. on October 1st, welcoming cinema enthusiasts, filmmakers, and the public to explore the rich history of Nigerian cinema. On the following day, the exhibition continues with a full day of viewing.

Curated by the esteemed talent agent and film history collector, Taiwo Adeyemi, “Losing Daylight” is more than just an exhibition; it’s an institution dedicated to preserving Nigeria’s cinematic heritage.

Adeyemi expressed, “It’s about reclaiming the fading history of Nigerian cinema and presenting it as an art form, an entertainment source, an educational resource, a cultural treasure, and a social document.”

The exhibition will feature a treasure trove of artifacts and antiques, showcasing the different eras of Nigerian cinema, from the colonial period to the home video phase and the contemporary Nollywood era.

Attendees can expect to see vintage costumes worn by legendary actors, original movie scripts, historical news publications, iconic posters, VHS cassettes, captivating prop installations, and rare footage from iconic film productions, providing a nostalgic journey through Nigeria’s cinematic past.

Furthermore, “Losing Daylight” serves as a prelude to a grand week-long exhibition planned for December 2023 at the EcoBank Pan African Centre.
