Afrobeats sensation Davido, born David Adeleke, was disappointed at the 66th Grammy Awards as he lost all three nominations on Sunday night.

Making his Grammys debut, Davido secured nods in three esteemed categories: Best Global Music Album for “Timeless,” Best African Music Performance, and Best Melodic Music Rap Performance.

The categories saw fierce competition with notable Nigerian artists, including Asake, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and the renowned Burna Boy.

In the highly anticipated Best Global Music Album category, both Davido and Burna Boy fell short, as the Fusion Band Shakti’s “This Moment” clinched the coveted award. The Best African Music Performance category witnessed South Africa’s Tyla’s “Water” emerging victorious, leaving Davido and fellow nominees without the sought-after Grammy accolade.

However, despite the intense rivalry between Nigeria and South Africa, Davido graciously congratulated Tyla on X and encouraged her to “keep soaring.”

The 2024 Grammy Awards also showcased other winners, including Barbie the Album for the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Billie Eilish and Finneas’ song “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie for the Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Chris Stapleton won Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance with “White Horse.” Killer Mike dominated the rap categories, winning Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” along with Best Rap Album for “Michael.” Lil Durk and J. Cole claimed the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance with “All My Life,” while Victoria Monét triumphed with the Best R&B Album for “Jaguar II.”

While Burna Boy, Asake, and Arya Starr also experienced losses, it is crucial to acknowledge the significance of Davido achieving his first-ever Grammy nominations.
