In Onitsha, 2020 Anambra Football Kiddies Camp kicks off with Mmadu

On the 19th of December 2020, the 2020 Anambra Football Kiddies Camp with former Super Falcons midfielder Maureen Mmadu who featured in four FIFA Women’s World Cups kicked off in Onitsha with around 100 girls in attendance.

The kiddies came is set up to be a biannual event.  In the year 2021, the first edition will take place in April which would be Easter Camp and will be for girls from 10-15. While the second edition would take place in December and would be for girls from 15-20.

For a thorough grooming by Mmadu herself, alongside an array of other coaches and instructors who have played and coached in the game at different levels of female football, the girls would be camped at the Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Onitsha for the maiden edition raking place in Onitsha.

The registration for the camp ended on the 23rd of December, 2020 and over 100 girls were required.  According to Mmadu, “Yes, we have over 100 kids and it’s going to be annually”. Parents bought a form of N5, 000 which accompanied a branded set of jersey, football, a pair of booths, a training top and a kit bag, all produced and packaged in Norway.

In addition, guardians were mandated to submit a medical report stating that their ward is in fit medical condition.

Concerning security and protection, Mmadu promised that it is of utmost importance as she made sure by every means to have the kids comfortable while getting their skills eminent and interact with each other.

During the camp, the girls are trained with techniques, how to handle the ball and also three major things, when to train, when to rest and what to eat as a footballer. In addition, the strategic aspect of the game is given to them.

The main purpose of the camp as declared by the organizers is to train, nurture, mentor and elevate the next generation of female soccer stars that will represent the state as well as the nation right from the foundation level.

To prospective sponsors, they are desiring to join and partner with Mmadu, ensuring that relevant bodies will know and appreciate her efforts in grass root development of female football.
