23 Years After Felabration Upholding African Culture and History

Felabration is a festival that is held annually honour of Late Afro Beats founder, Fela Anikulapo Kuit. It has become an platform for upholding African culture through music, culture and arts to commemorate the life and times of Nigeria’s foremost musical icon, the late great Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The Felabration was established in 1998 in honour of the late musician by his daughter Yeni Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti shortly after his passing in 1997.

Felabration has in over 20 years grown in leaps and bounds to become a custodian of the African culture, history, entertainment and education hosting an audience of over 1 million people across the globe (With over 30,000 in Nigeria). The audience always looks forward to top-notch performances from industry professionals as well as top musicians including popular writer and novelist, Chimamanda Adichie, Femi Kuti, Davido, Burna Boy, Tu face, Seun Kuti, Mayorkun, Adekunle Gold, Falz, and Sir, Sound Sultan, Shina Peters etc.

The event is often celebrated at the Afrika shrine, Ikeja which was the official haven of Fela Anikulapo Kuti where he entertained guests from around the world. International stars have also been hosted at the Felabration including; Hugh Masekela (South Africa), Seun Kuti (Nigeria), Femi Kuti (Nigeria), Awilo Logomba (DRC), King Sunny Ade (Nigeria), Asa (Nigeria), 2Baba (Nigeria) and Sauti Sol (Kenya).

The Felabration Committee is saddled with the responsibility of organizing the festival yearlyThe 2021 edition is slated to hold from 11 to 17 October at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, will run under the theme, Viva Nigeria Viva Africa.
