During the coroner’s inquest into the death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, Dr. Richard Somiari, the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, affirmed on Wednesday that the autopsy results would be available within the next three to four weeks. This reassurance was provided while he testified before Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court. The witness underwent cross-examination by the defense counsel during the proceedings.
We recall that Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and that he was buried the following day at the age of 27. His demise sparked controversies, prompting the Lagos State Government to initiate a coroner’s inquest to ascertain the cause of death. This inquest commenced on October 13, 2023.
Dr. Somiari informed the court of the meticulous process undertaken in the autopsy to explore various potential causes of Mohbad’s death, including the possibility of poisoning, given the absence of a definitive cause. He emphasized the rigorous security and monitoring protocols implemented to safeguard the integrity of the samples and results throughout the investigative process.
Additionally, Mr. Sadiq Ayobami, also known as Spendy, testified that he had seen Mohbad the day before his demise, as they both attended a concert in Ikorodu. After returning to Spendy’s residence, he departed, unaware of the events leading to the singer’s passing.
Addressing the issue of paternity surrounding Mohbad’s child, Mrs. Abiodun Kolawole, representing the African Women Lawyers Association, urged the deceased’s parents to seek legal recourse rather than resorting to social media for grievances.
Magistrate T. A. Shotobi adjourned the proceedings until April 15, allowing for further investigation and presentation of testimonies.
