Lagos State Announces Food Festival in December

The Lagos State Government has announced that it will hold its rebranded Food Festival in December. The announcement was made at a media briefing on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya. The programme was unveiled with theme “A Taste of Lagos.” The State looks forward to welcome in local and foreign investors to explore food.

“The Lagos food festival will help to stimulate investor interest in the food business, create direct and indirect jobs for value chain actors and artisans, while developing networks and linkages amongst stakeholders.” The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya said.

The commissioner said that the rebranded food festival is an offshoot of the erstwhile annual Seafood Festival which the state celebrated varieties of seafood. The festival will focus on projecting the various food offerings of the diverse socio-cultural groups to local and international markets.

More interestingly, the Lagos Food Festival would feature lots of  fresh products, organic groceries, dry food, confectionery, seafood, pastries and cooked meals. In addition, the festival will be able to offer over 150 direct and indirect jobs to individuals.

The festival will take place on December 12, 2021 at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island with an expected number of over 3,000 guests in attendance and sales of over N15 million to be made by participating farmers, fishermen, and other food vendors.

“A total of 5,130 visitors participated in previous editions, with over 1,320 fish farmers and fishermen which consisted of 900 fish processors and 64 seafood vendors at the event. A total of N32,984,000 was realized as volume of transactions during the five editions.”

The Commissioner promised the festival to be fun and exciting with other engaging activities like family cooking competitions, fish auction, and culinary competitions among celebrity chefs.
