The National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD have threatened to go on a national wide strike starting on Monday since their demands have not been met by the Federal Government.

This was revealed by Dr. Aliyu Sokomba, President of NARD yesterday in Abuja.

This impending strike is as a result of the failure of the Federal Government to fulfil it’s promises as regard the overall welfare of healthcare workers in the country.

Furthermore, the Federal Government has failed to pay the outstanding salary shortfall from the years 2014 through to 2016. Also, NARD is displeased with the Federal Government for not revising the hazard allowance for all health workers which was supposed to commence in September 2020.

All these were tabled in the virtual meeting that held on 2nd of September to review the 21-day ultimatum issued to government which elapsed 17th of August 2020.

NEC stated that in spite of the inclusion, the residency funding in the revised 2020 budget, the government has not made a plan to implement the payment despite several promises by several stakeholders
