Ruth Agbakoba Wins Global Award in Medical IT

Nigerian PHD candidate Ruth Agbakoba was the recipient of the 1st prize at the recently concluded World Congress on Medical IT. She beat other candidates across the globe to clinch the coveted prize.

In 2009, Ruth graduated top of her class and received the Principal Award from St Georges Medical School, University of London. She was also awarded an Informatics Scholarship Award from the School of Informatics, City University, London in 2010. Ruth’s studentship is entirely funded by the Medical Research Council.

Agbakoba’s work experience includes clinical coding, information technology consultancy, dynamic solution delivery and performance analysis.  Ruth has worked as part of the Data Warehouse, Performance & Information Team and liaised with four main hospital providers namely Guys’ and St Thomas Hospital, Kings College Hospital, University Hospital Lewisham and South London Healthcare Trust.In these capacities Ruth has continually been able to successfully apply her theoretical knowledge of informatics into the working world.
