Eko Hotel was abuzz with excitement as industry connoisseurs from across Nigeria gathered to honor the nominees of the 16th installment of The Headies Africa’s Premier award show, at a unique nominees’ party on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

The event, designed to honor the African Renaissance and spotlight the nominees in each category for the upcoming award show on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, was a star-studded affair. The event saw the presence of numerous luminaries and performers like Zaaki Azzay and stand-up comedian, Steve Onu popularly known as Yaw, amongst others.

Yaw, the host of the nominee’s party, emphasized the significance of this year’s Headies. “As we celebrate the African Renaissance, it’s crucial to recognize the trailblazing artists who laid the groundwork and defined the genre for the emerging talents who are now making waves on the global stage.”

“We must understand the origin of the genre,” he posited.

Yinka Adebayo, the Executive Director of Media Reach, also stated in an exclusive interview with Netng, that this year’s Headies presents Africans with a platform to display their rich culture to the world.

“Nigeria is leading the way, but we need to carry other African countries along, and this gives us the opportunity to showcase that beyond music, there is more to Africa,” he told Netng.

As the Headies makes its grand entrance in Atlanta, Georgia, this September, featuring electrifying performances from prominent Nigerian artists such as Asake, Seyi Vibez, Rema, Ayra Starr, Wande Coal, and many more, the primary objective of the evening is to honor the African Renaissance through our unique fashion and melodious music.
