The World’s largest bird sculpture is located in the Jatayu Adventure Centre at Chadayamangalam in Kollam, Kerala, India.
In Indian Mythology and folklore, Jatayu was a mighty bird and a trusted ally of Lord Rama, the seventh avenger of Lord Vishnu. Jatayu fought valiantly trying to save Rama’s wife, Sita who was abducted by the demon king of Lanka, Ravana.
According to the legend, Jatayu lost his wings in the face-off with Ravana and fell onto the rocks in Chadayamangalam where the sculpture currently sits.
During the search for Sita, Rama and Lakshmana unexpectedly found Jatayu, gravely injured and nearing the end of his life. Jatayu revealed his valiant battle against Ravana and informed them that the demon king had proceeded towards the southern direction.
Measuring (200 feet (61 m) long, 150 feet (46 m) wide, 70 feet (21 m) in height and occupying 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2) of floor area), the sculpture of Jatayu symbolises the protection of women, and their honour and safety.
It was designed and sculpted by Rajiv Anchal, a film producer, writer, and sculptor.
