Meta’s newly released Threads app has attracted an impressive fifty million user registrations in less than 24 hours of its launch.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO said the app is a ‘friendly’ competitor to Twitter, which was acquired by Elon Musk in October.

According to experts, Threads has the potential to appeal to Twitter users who are dissatisfied with the recent modifications made to the platform.

Meanwhile, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, believes that though Twitter may be frequently copied, its community is irreplaceable and cannot be replicated.

Threads enables users to share posts of up to 500 characters and incorporates numerous functionalities reminiscent of Twitter.

In a previous statement, the Meta CEO emphasized that maintaining a “friendly” environment on the platform is crucial for its long-term success.

However, Musk offered a contrasting view, stating that he finds it far more preferable to face criticism from strangers on Twitter than to engage in the deceptive satisfaction of hiding pain on Instagram.

In response to a question on Threads about the app’s potential to surpass Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg expressed that while it may require some time, he envisions a public conversations app with over 1 billion users. He acknowledged that Twitter had the chance to achieve this but fell short, and he hopes that their app can succeed in this regard.

The online reception of the launch has been positive, as users reported that they viewed Threads as a valuable contender to Twitter, filling a void that was deeply needed.

According to the Apple App Store, competitors have expressed concerns about the app’s potential usage of extensive data, which could encompass health, financial, and browsing data associated with users’ identities.

There are users who have raised concerns about the inability to remove their Threads profile without deleting their linked Instagram profile.

Affirming this, Meta said it is not possible to delete the Threads profile separately from the Instagram account. However, they assured that they are actively working on enabling this feature in the future. In the meantime, users can choose to deactivate their Threads profile whenever they want.

According to Meta, “Deactivating your Threads profile will not deactivate your Instagram account”.

If you deactivate your account, your Threads profile, along with your posts and interactions on other people’s posts, will become invisible.”

“Users can download and delete Threads data vis their Instagram settings.”

Threads is available to download in more than 100 countries, including the UK, but it is not yet available in the EU due to regulatory concerns.
