The Federal Road Safety Commission has announced their plan to detain of masquerades that disrupt the free flow of traffic and cause accidents during this year’s festive season.
Zonal Commanding Officer RS5 Benin City, Mr Kehinde Adeleye announced this on Thursday, November 7, during his end of the year campaign in Onitsha, Anambra State. He stated that the FRSC is taking this stand due to some cases in the past were disruption of traffic by masquerade display groups resulted to high rate of accidents and also reminded the public that this isn’t a season for them as such acts will not be tolerated.
Speaking, Mr. Adeleye declared that “This is the time to seize such masquerades.”
FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi who was represented at the occasion by Mr Kehinde cautioned drivers who use the road at night and defy traffic rules. He acknowledged Anambra state government for supporting the FRSC and assured the state of safe monitoring and inspections by the corps.
Anambra Sector Commander, Mr Andrew Kumapayi in his address, also assured motorists in the state of safe monitoring by FRSC. He added that the state command has concluded assessment of key roads in the state and will soon commence deployment of FRSC corps to the roads for surveillance.
Governor Willie Obiano was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke and declared the campaign open.
