Xavi Hernández Unveiled as Barcelona’s New Coach

Barcelona FC has unveiled former midfielder, Xavi Hernández as its new coach before thousands of fans at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, Spain.

The club, via its website, stated that it “had reached an agreement with Xavi Hernández for him to become first team coach for the rest of the current season and two more seasons.

The former Barca midfielder was at Al-Sadd of Qatar from 2019 until 2021 after talks were held over the last few days with the owners of the club.

The president of the club, Joan Laporta, during the ceremony where the ex-midfielder was accompanied by his family, said, “It’s a historical day for Barcelona. Welcome, Xavi,” an emotional Barca president Joan Laporta told the supporters during the ceremony where the ex-midfielder was accompanied by his family.

“I don’t want to get too emotional, so I will just tell you one thing — we are the best club in the world,” Xavi told the crowd of around 10,000 fans.

“And we will work to the highest standards to have success. We cannot accept defeats or draws, we have to win every game.”

Laporta said: “Today will be an historic day for Barca.”

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernández is expected to arrive at Barcelona this weekend and that on Monday 8 November his presentation as the new FC Barcelona first team coach will take place in an event open to the public at Camp Nou. After the event Xavi Hernández will appear in a press conference in the Ricard Maxenchs press room.
