Wednesday Woman Personality: Flora Azikiwe.

Flora Ogbenyeanu Ogoegbunam Azikiwe was the first wife of Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the first President of Nigeria. She was born on the 7th of August, 1917 and died in August 1983.

While alive, she served as the First Lady of Nigeria from 0ctober 1st 1963 to 16 January 1966.

She was born in Onitsha, Anambra State into the family of Chief Ogoegbunam, the Adazia of Onitsha (Ndichie Chief) from Ogboli Agbor Onitsha.

Ogoegbunam met her husband Nanamdei Azikiwe in Onitsha in the year 1934. They got married two years after on the 4th of April, 1936. They had one daughter and three sons together.

Their wedding took place in James Town, Accra, Ghana. This was where Nnamdi Azikiwe was working as the editor of African Morning Post at that period.

Flora was a member of the Eastern working Committee of the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroons (NCNC). She was also the first patron of the Home Science Association (HSA) which was formerly known as Federal Home Science Association.
