The vice chancellor of the University of Mkar, Mkar UMM, Professor Zack Gundu in Benue State yesterday escaped after plans to kidnap him were foiled by the Benue Police Anti-Robbery Squad.
According to The Nation, the two suspects, who have been arrested in connection with the planned kidnap, had contacted the professor by telephone demanding for the sum of ten million naira in exchange for his life.
“However, the vice chancellor, Professor Gundu, summoned courage and reported the matter to the police through a petition to the Benue Commissioner of Police”, the newspaper reported.
The police promptly swung into action and traced the kidnappers to a town called Agbeede, Konshisha Local Government of Benue State, where two of the suspects arrested.
The vice chancellor of UMM, Professor Gundu, confirmed the incident and described the attempt on his life as unfortunate.
