Tragedy was averted on Tuesday, November 5, at the Enugu/Onitsha expressway, Abba intersection in Njikoka local government of Anambra state as the state witnessed another oil tanker failure.

Reporting the incident, the Nation newspaper revealed that the incident happened scarcely four days after the state government confirmed the ban on movement of oil tanker in the state. The report further stated that according to an eye witness identified as Mr. Abuchi, the incident occurred at about 8:30am after the driver lost control of the vehicle following brake failure. Mr Abuchi recalled that the tanker spilled its inflammable content but luckily there was no fire as the zone was cordoned off by police personnel, limiting movement, while men of the state fire service swiftly moved to the location to prevent any fire outbreak. Also on ground were personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) whom evacuated the tanker from the spot.

The state fire service have been on red alert to prevent a repeat of the fire outbreak that engulfed parts of Ochanja market in Onitsha, Anambra state after an oil tanker lost control and spilled its contents.
