Tourism Trinidad officially kicked off the 2024–25 cruise season on November 15, 2024, with the arrival of Nautica from Oceania Cruises at the Port of Spain Cruise Ship Complex.

The milestone event was marked by a welcoming ceremony attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and the Arts; the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago; the Port of Spain City Corporation; and other industry leaders.

Cliff Hamilton, chairman of Tourism Trinidad Limited, praised the efforts behind this achievement, calling it a testament to the organization’s strategic vision and international marketing initiatives.

“The arrival of the Nautica today is a testament to the hard work and strategic vision of Tourism Trinidad in the international market, as well as our ongoing efforts to position Trinidad as a premier destination in the Caribbean,” said Hamilton.

This season, Trinidad is set to welcome 20 cruise calls from 11 cruise lines, including six making their inaugural visits. Hamilton credited this success to initiatives such as participation in global tradeshows, online promotion of Trinidad’s unique offerings, and the cultivation of strong partnerships with international stakeholders.

The event also featured a tour of the Nautica by officials from Tourism Trinidad Limited, the Port Authority, and the Port of Spain City Corporation. The highlight of the visit was the Traditional Crest Exchange Ceremony, a symbolic maritime tradition that celebrates goodwill and partnership. Commemorative crests were exchanged between the shipmaster and local representatives, marking the ship’s inaugural call to Trinidad.

Cornell Buckradee, CEO of Tourism Trinidad Limited, emphasized the economic and cultural significance of cruise tourism for the island.

“Every cruise call is a gateway to economic growth, job creation, and invaluable exposure for our local tour operators, artisans, taxi drivers, and small businesses,” said Buckradee. “These visitors are not just tourists; they have the potential to become destination ambassadors for Trinidad, sharing their positive experiences with their personal and online networks, which is vital for building our reputation internationally.”

Buckradee further highlighted the organization’s focus on enhancing the visitor experience, ensuring passengers are met with seamless hospitality and a showcase of Trinidad’s vibrant culture, captivating attractions, and unique charm.
