Following an interview with David Beasley, the World Food Programme Director, in which he called out two of the world’s wealthiest men, Elon Musk and Jeff Besos, seeking their support to tackle the problem, the Tesla chief executive has responded via his Twitter handle.
In the interview, the WFP director said “What if your daughter was starving to death? What if it was your family starving to death? Just, wake up, smell the coffee and help.” He added that 42 million people would die if they weren’t considered and $6 billion to help them “is not complicated.”
“If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6 billion will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.” The Tesla chief executive, Elon Musk said. He also added that it must be open source accounting so the pubic can see how the money is spent.
The WFP Director responded assuring Elon Musk that they had the systems in place for transparency and open source accounting. He also invited Elon Musk’s team to be a part of the job to be confident of such.
