Queen Elizabeth II was 39 years, 296 days old when England won the World Cup on home soil. She had the honour of presenting the World Cup (Jules Rimer trophy) to captain Bobby Moore at the famous Wembley Stadium..
Her reign as Queen commenced on 6 February 1952. But she was coronated on
2 June 1953. She was barely 14 years on the throne when England won the World Cup.
For a 95-year old football loving monarch who reports suggest, supports Manchester United passionately and had the privilege of hosting the 1966 World Cup on home-soil…nothing could be more fulfilling as she ages gracefully than touching the Euro trophy.
The first and only time the Queen and her country celebrated a continental or international football tournament as winners or champions was that World Cup feat of 1966.
On July 30, 1966, Queen Elizabeth II presented the World Cup to England captain, Bobby Moore, after England’s 4-2 victory in the final against West Germany.
Certainly, the Queen will love to have another feeling of lifting or touching a trophy 55 years after.
Will history be made again in Wembley? Will the Queen have another opportunity in her life time to celebrate with her subjects and compatriots this continental sporting feat?
We wait with fingers crossed. All hail the Queen….Long live the Queen!!!
