“Igbo Kings in Diaspora Explained”

The concept of Igbo kings in diaspora reflects a powerful tradition where prominent Igbo leaders are appointed to uphold cultural, social, and political values for Igbo people living outside of Nigeria. These kings are sacred custodians of Igbo heritage and work together to foster unity within their communities abroad. From commerce to international relations, Igbo kings in the diaspora—like HRH Igwe Dr. Chuma Raymond Okadigbo in Ghana—play a vital role in maintaining a deep connection between the Igbo people in the diaspora and their ancestral roots in Nigeria. Their influence stretches across commerce, leadership, and community engagement, ensuring that the Igbo culture thrives no matter where its people are found.

Wise Words of HRH Igwe Dr Chuma Okadigbo – A Call to Action

The Royal Address: HRH in his message to ndi Igbo in diaspora stressed, “Do Not Forget Your Roots” His Royal Highness urged Igbos worldwide to never lose sight of their heritage. He emphasized the importance of promoting Igbo culture and values. He encouraged Igbo diasporans, particularly business traders, to remain connected to their roots, no matter how successful they become! He noted, “Your comfort zone is not your final destination. Nothing good comes from your comfort zone. Always remember home, and invest in its development.”

During this historic event, HRH Dr. Okadigbo’s words of wisdom echoed through the palace, re-igniting the ambition of numerous diasporas: he went on to inspire self-discovery and urged everyone to dig deep within themselves to find their purpose, adding that, “The company you keep determines your accomplishments in life. If you surround yourself with the wise, you will become wise. However, if you surround yourself with fools, you become foolish.”

HRH went further to spread more words of wisdom

“If you do not know where you are coming from, you cannot know where you are going.”

“Greatness begins where comfort ends. The moment you feel too comfortable, it’s time to rise and expand your horizons.”

Good dreams are fantastic! However, greatness demands Action!”

“Home is not just a place, it’s a legacy. Always remember home, no matter how far you go. Invest in its growth.”

“Your heritage is your power. The Igbo spirit is unbreakable, and you have to nurture and strengthen it wherever you are.”

HRH stressed that Igbos in the diaspora should endeavour to teach their children the Igbo language as well as their heritage, he extended an invitation to interested participants to enrol their children in his “Igbo Teaching Academy’ here in Ghana. These resonating statements, made by HRH have set off a vibrant conversation on Instagram about heritage, ambition, and the future of the Igbo community.
