The Rotary Club of Awka GRA has installed Rotarian Somadina Okwelogu as its nineteenth President.
The newly installed president, Somadina Okwelogu who spoke during his inaugural address asserted that Rotary opens opportunities for people to live richer and more meaningful lives. In line with this, the Club will focus on some important areas to improve upon in various communities.
Past President of the Club, Rotarian Fidel Okafor who gave the valedictory speech urged the members to support the new President to ensure his tenure becomes a success. He also expressed gratitude to God for coming through, despite the emergence of the Coronavirus pandemic. He noted that the Club was still able to carry out humanitarian services, engage in health outreach, assist indigent people, and undertake other projects.
X-raying the four-way test of Rotary, Sir Amobi Adirika, the Past Assistant Governor of the club, stated that if everyone applies the test in their personal life, the society will be a better place for all, free from bitterness, rancour, and bloodshed.
Speaking on the impact of the Club, Chief Chukwudi Maduabum, one of the award recipients, who received an Excellent Community Service award emphasized that club, through his efforts, contributed immensely to the infrastructural development of his community, Ojoto. In addition, he urged the State government to provide assistance in tackling some road construction.
On his part, Rotarian, Ikechuku Aniemena maintained that they have kept the tradition of selfless service for years visiting the poorest of the poor and assisting others to access quality health care. He also thanked their members for the spirit of oneness and called on people to collaborate with them on humanitarian services.
The event which featured the induction of new members attracted Rotarians, academia, friends, and well-wishers. The New President, Somadina Okwelogu on his part pleaded for public support.
