Protest: Kaduna Residents Halt Traffic Over Abductions

A group of protesters from Gauraka community have disrupted daily movement along Abuja-Kaduna highway due to the incessant abduction of some residents of the community by gunmen.
The protest which started in the early hours of Monday created heavy traffic as protesters burned tyres to create a scene. A member of the community narrated the incidence stating that gunmen invaded the community at around 1:17am and abducted 15 persons.
The protesters narrated their ordeal stating that about 30 persons from the community are currently in kidnappersā€™ den, and that their abductors are demanding a huge ransom.
ā€œAt exactly 1:17am in the morning, I heard a gunshot. I had to quickly close my windows because they were opened. I told my people at home to be calm,ā€ he said.
ā€œI went to my toilet to see what was happening. I saw that the gunmen were taking my neighbour with his two children. One is 10 years old and the second is 8 years old.

They reiterated that this was not the first time such happened and demanded to know if they are safe in the country. According to them, the protest was targeted at calling the attention of the relevant authorities to their plight. As gathered by the Cable as a member of the community stated that four persons were kidnapped in the community while their abductors are demanding a N10 million ransom.
