Prop Gun Kills One, Injures Director on Alec Baldwin’s Movie Set

A director of photography known as Halyna Hutchins has died after actor Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico on Thursday. The movie director on set was also reportedly injured from the incident.

According to CNN, the 42-year-old director was transported to the hospital via helicopter but was pronounced dead by medical personnel at University of New Mexico Hospital, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Director Joel Souza, 48, was transported to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance for care.

Meanwhile, already distraught Alec Baldwin was being questioned about the shooting on a local movie set at the Santa Fe County sheriff’s office. At the time of the report, the Sheriff’s Office told CNN that the investigation “remains open and active” and no charges have been filed. “Rust” is a Western film set in the 1880s that stars Baldwin, Travis Fimmel and Jensen Ackles.
