President Bola Tinubu officially launched the Student Loan Scheme on Wednesday, July 17, signaling the formal commencement of the program’s implementation.
According to an update on ‘X’ by Dada Olusegun, the President’s special adviser on social media, the launch event took place at the State House in Abuja.
It is worth recalling that a few weeks ago, President Tinubu approved ₦35 billion for the scheme’s initial phase, aimed at assisting 70,000 applicants.
The Governing Board of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), chaired by Jim Ovia, authorized the disbursement of loans to successful applicants during its first meeting in Abuja last month.
The student loan scheme, a key initiative of the Tinubu administration, seeks to provide financial support, including school fees and stipends, to eligible students across the nation.
In its first phase, over 1.2 million students are expected to benefit from this program.
