With October 1st fast approaching, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled the logo for Nigeria’s diamond jubilee anniversary.
As Nigeria prepares for its 60th anniversary, President Buhari pledged that his administration will continue to work towards greater inclusiveness.
The unveiling of the logo was done prior to the commencement of the 15th virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House, Abuja.
According to President Buhari, that Nigeria gained independence 60 years ago indeed calls for pomp and pageantry. However, with COVID-19 still in contention, the Federal Government has deemed it fit to have a low-keyed celebration.
Speaking on the logo, he explained that due to the implications of the COVID-19 scourge, an internet challenge was created for Nigerians to make a choice from a set of four pre-selected logos that will appropriately define the theme.
His words, “I’m informed that the selected option depicts our togetherness; a country of over 200 million people, whose natural talents, grits and passion glitter like the precious diamond we are”.
It should be pointed out that there were four options from which Nigerians from all walks of life participated in the decision making for which should be the logo for the country’s silver jubilee anniversary.
