P716Anambra, the Light of the nation, indeed is blessed with individuals that assiduously put the state and Nigeria as a whole on the world map. Anambra people are hardworking, diligent, and industrious. They always strive to excel in whatever field they find themselves in.

Today’s post is focused on Anambra and Nigeria’s finest, Alex Iwobi, who is doing well for himself in the football industry. Here are 24 things you should know about him:

  1. His full name is Alexander Chuka Iwobi
  2. He was born on May 3rd, 1996
  3. His maternal uncle is the famous Austin JayJay Okocha.
  4. He was born in Lagos but relocated to England when he was 4.
  5. He briefly stayed in Turkey but grew up in Newham, England.
  6. Alex joined Arsenal Football Club in 2004 while still in primary school.
  7. He made his first appearance for Arsenal in a League cup match against West Bromwich Albion at age 17.
  8. Alex signed a long term contract with Arsenal at age 19.
  9. Alex represented the English junior teams at U16, U17, and U18 levels.
  10. He made his first-team debut in the League cup against Sheffield in 2015.
  11. Alex made his Premier League debut against Swansea at the Liberty stadium.
  12. He played his first UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich, coming in as a substitute.
  13. Iwobi became a regular member of the team in the 2016-2017 FA cup where they defeated Chelsea in the finals, 2-1.
  14. He made his Super Eagles debut in 2015 against DR.Congo.
  15. Iwobi was a member of the 35 man squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but couldn’t further due to injury.
  16. Iwobi scored his first goal for Nigeria in a match against Zambia in 2016 at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
  17. He was awarded the Confederation of African Football’s Young Player of the year in 2016.
  18. Alex was also listed as a member of the Confederation of African Football Team of the year in 2016.
  19. He won the FA Cup in the 2016-17 season and Community Shield twice in 2015 & 2017.
  20. Alex came close to winning the UEFA Europa League in the 2018-19 season but lost to Chelsea 4-1. He scored that goal.
