Onitsha: Two Die, Six Injured In Ghastly Motor Accident

A ghastly motor accident involving three vehicles has claimed the lives of two adult males yesterday at the flyover in Upper Iweka, Onitsha in Anambra State. The news was confirmed by the State’s Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Mr Utten Boyi, stating that the accident was caused by speeding and loss of control.

The accident was said to have occurred yesterday afternoon involved a Mercedes trailer with registration number SMK 728 DA, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number HTE 791 XA and a Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number NNE 138 ZF. He revealed that eight persons comprising five male adults, one female adult and two male children. The victims sustained various degrees of injuries with one rushed to Toronto Hospital by the FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Command while two of the victims were confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors on duty.

Mr Boyi further explained to The Nation that eyewitnesses at the venue of the incident revealed that the “driver of the trailer, who was speeding, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into two other vehicles.” “Their bodies had been deposited at the mortuary,” he said.

He condoled with the families of the deceased while he cautioned motorists against violation of the speed limit and urged them to drive safely to avoid accidents and loss of lives.
