Onitsha Rotary Club to Award Scholarships to 10 indigent Students

The Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis has finalized plans to sponsor ten underprivileged students in various secondary schools through its scholarship program, aimed at fostering education and learning. This announcement was made by the newly installed president, Rtn Oby Arinze, during a ceremony celebrating her installment as the 23rd president of the club.

Arinze, who is a staff member at the News Sub-Directorate of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu, Purity FM Awka, encouraged philanthropic individuals to support the organization’s mission to improve the lives of the needy in society. She outlined several initiatives and projects the club plans to undertake during her presidency, including environmental fumigation in all Onitsha markets and a micro-credit scheme designed to empower women.

“We are committed to enhancing our impact on the residents of Onitsha Metropolis and surrounding areas through our professional and vocational training programs, as well as our business development, education, and health support projects,” Arinze emphasized.

In his remarks, Mr. Chiejina Obieze, the Senior Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on Security, praised the club for aligning with the free education policy of the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo-led administration. He also pledged to collaborate with the club to ensure its success.

Additionally, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the State, highlighted the significant contributions of Rotary International to society. He urged the new president and her members to continue the legacy of selfless service to humanity.

The event featured the official installation, award presentations, and a free medical outreach, marking it as a significant milestone for the club and the community it serves.
