Obi of Onitsha Receives Commendation From ASBA

As a result of his unwavering support towards galvanizing Onitsha Youths into Cooperative societies where they can obtain soft loans, the Anambra State Small Business Agency, ASBA has commended the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe for being the first traditional ruler to achieve this feat.

This came off following a courtesy visit by the Agency to his imeobi palace, in Awka road Onitsha. The commendation letter was handed over to the Obi by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka.

According to Anambra State Broadcasting Correspondent, Emengini Osadebe, the event was held under strict observance of COVID-19 protocols.

As a matter of fact, the commendation letter was accompanied by an open cheque for thirty-five million naira, pre-signed by the Obi. This was handed over as proof that the soft loan has been paid in full at the appointed time by the seven cooperative societies of Onitsha Youths.

According to the Igwe who spoke at the event, he assured of his readiness to continue doing business with the Agency. This is given the fact that Onitsha community is poised at creating modern concept for its youths who are going to be commercial entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, he thanked the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano for establishing ASBA and promised to ensure that the cooperatives are sustained and supported to change the mindset of the youths, consequently re-establishing Onitsha’s core value. As Chief Chukwuka explained earlier in his speech, ASBA was established by the Governor basically to eliminate poverty in the State.

Also, the representatives of the seven cooperative societies appreciated Governor Obiano and ASBA for the initiative and Igwe Achebe for standing in for them as their father. On his part, Honourable Patrick Agha-Mba, the Onitsha Youth Council and ASATU Youth Wing expressed gratitude to God for the honour and privilege while describing Governor Obiano as a man who believes so much in youth empowerment.
