The Board of Trustees of the Nsibidi Foundation has announced the appointment of award-winning historian and filmmaker, Nze Ed Emeka Keazor, as the new Director of the Nsibidi Institute, the Foundation’s heritage and cultural research arm.

The appointment takes effect from June 2, 2025, according to an official statement released by the organisation.

With more than three decades of experience in historical research, filmmaking, and curation, Keazor is widely respected for his work in documenting and preserving African history. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Keazor’s curatorial portfolio includes landmark projects such as the First Bank and TotalEnergies mobile museums. He also directed the award-winning historical film January 15, 1970, and recently served as Consultant Historian on the documentaries The Decolonisation of Africa and Journey of the Beats.

In recognition of his contributions to African historical scholarship, Keazor was honoured in 2015 by the African Society of Cambridge University.

Reacting to his appointment, Keazor expressed appreciation to the Board for the opportunity to lead the Institute, which has remained inactive for the past five years. He hinted at plans to revive the Institute with an ambitious annual programme that includes cultural events, research projects, and the development of new digital tools aimed at expanding public access to Nigeria’s rich heritage.
