The front-runners for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket have seemed like one of former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
However, it seems like a new candidate within the party has leapfrogged both aspirants. According to reports, the APC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu has picked current Senate President, Ahmed Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate. This was apparently announced at the meeting of the National Working Committee in Abuja on Monday.
This decision has caused a stir within the APC as some members of the NWC have insisted that other Presidential aspirants be allowed to contest the primary election at tomorrow’s convention instead of a consensus candidate being enforced on them.

The selection of Lawan as a consensus candidate also goes against the apparent position of 11 APC Northern governors who believe that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
President Buhari has maintained his position on a consensus candidate, however, he has been unable to convince all 23 presidential aspirants.
The APC convention set for tomorrow looks set for a very interesting meeting and we’ll be watching what the outcome will be.
